Hometown hero, west Oahu native and UFC Featherweight Champion Max “Blessed” Holloway (18-3) will no longer be facing Frankie Edgar in the much anticipated December 2nd headliner.
Edgar is off the card for UFC 218 in Detroit, Michigan. The two were slated for a main event title match until earlier this week when Edgar was reported to have suffered an undisclosed injury.
Holloway is still hopeful that a replacement will be found for the show. The most obvious choice would be Cub Swanson (25-7) who has won his last four bouts, but Swanson is scheduled to headline the UFC card on the following weekend in Fresno, California.
Though he is supposed to fight Brian Ortega, it seems Swanson would be more than willing to have a rematch. Holloway defeated Swanson in April 2015 by third round guillotine, also winning performance of the night honors.
Swanson does not seem to be alone in thinking that he should be the next in line.
and, wait for it….
Even Nick Jonas, who played an MMA fighter on TV is in favor of the match up.
Jose Aldo, who was defeated by Holloway earlier this year, has expressed interested in wanting a shot at regaining the Featherweight title back from Holloway.
Hawaii and the world anxiously awaits to find out who will be facing Holloway on December 2nd for UFC 218.
Hawaiian, Yancy Medeiros (14-4) will also be on the card, taking on Alex Oliveira (17-4-1) as the seventh fight of the night, and the third fight on Fox Sports 1.
